3 Band Rifle
A 577” Ordnance issue Enfield Snider MkII** three
band service rifle dated 1859.
Lock fitted with correct cupped face hammer is engraved
with Crowned VR to the tail with 1859 ENFIELD .
Walnut stock with regulation pattern brass furniture and
clearing rod to the underside with various markings & Sold |Out Of
Shoe is stamped II** with Enfield Inspectpors marks on
the Shoe, Action & Barrel.
There also Several BR Inspectors marks for the Birmingham Repair factory
which was the Royal Small Arms Repair Factory (RSARF)
Converted from an original P53 Enfield muzzle loading
Designed as a stop gap weapon, The Snider was intended
to serve with the army until the Martini Henry breech loader could be
developed and manufactured.
Ultimately the Snider was to be the front line weapon
of the army for well over 10 years.
The MkII** being the definitive issue variant of the rifle.
In very good original condition incuding the bore and
mechanics, a nice sharp stock and and much original finish.
